Megan Westcott joined FCPA in 2020, as an Accounting Services Manager, during the height of the pandemic. She experienced some of the firm’s first remote onboarding and work culture. Her accounting experience started in taxation at a Big 4 firm, and from there, she was interested in learning more about other aspects of accounting, which eventually led her to Founder’s. At present, she is a Senior Accounting Services Manager.
The firm’s modern-based approach. This can be an issue with bigger firms where they’ve been doing things the same way forever. It can be a lot more challenging to introduce things - [process] change for that many people can be slow. In a smaller firm like Founder’s, it’s nice to implement new things as they come in and leadership does a good job taking into account ideas and considerations from the whole team.
I’ve had to go through some GAAP-based compliance with one of my clients, including learning about lease accounting ASC 832 and getting it to a point where it passed the auditor’s test. There was a learning curve, but it’s been very useful, and the knowledge transfer can help the rest of the firm.
My weekly SPM [Same Page Meeting] with my mentor is something I haven’t had in past jobs. It keeps you in tune with what’s happening, and if there are any issues, it gives you time to bring them up in real-time. Having tools to help you understand what is expected, like our skills matrix, professional goals, etc., allows you to identify things and have your eyes opened to certain things to work towards.
